Allanhill Farm is only 1.5 km from the historic University town of St Andrews. Owned and run by John Mitchell, the farm has been in the family since 1952. Originally a dairy farm, there is now no livestock on the farm, the main focus being on cereals and soft fruit. The first crop of strawberries was planted here in 1995.
We now grow 45 hectares of strawberries and 2 hectares of other
soft fruits. All of our production is protected by polythene
tunnels. This helps to extend the harvest period and improve
fruit quality.
Our fruit is packed on the farm and marketed to major UK supermarket chains and is sold and enjoyed all over the UK.
The use of modern growing techniques extends our harvest season from May to mid October, peaking in June, July and August. The work is very labour-intensive and we employ up to 300 students at the height of the season.
Although we specialise in soft fruit, we also grow 425 hectares
of arable crops and run a specialist drinks business at Allanhill.

When coming from the East Neuk , take a sharp left at the first mini roundabout on arriving in St Andrews . Again, follow the strawberry signs for 1 mile and you’re here!
